‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
Event Days: December 8, 15 & 22
You are walking down a snowy forest path, the trees sparkling in the darkness.? Tiny points of light shimmer and wink at you, guiding you along.? In the distance, the strains of a familiar Christmas tune play on your ears.? ?You find yourself singing along, the words you thought you had long forgotten springing to your lips.? As you step out into the open, a lantern-lit village, bustling with activity, completes the picture.? Children peer through the frosty windows of the General Store, bells tinkling as customers emerge with old fashioned candies and brown paper packages.? Steps away, a group of wool-caped carolers chooses their next tune.? The printers toil at their Victorian presses, stamping out holiday greetings.? The smells of fresh baked bread, cinnamon and apples floats from a doorway, drawing you in to a cozy interior where a woman who has just stepped out of a Dickens novel clatters the iron door of a glowing woodstove.
A pleasant dream?? A fairy tale?? No, it’s Westfield Heritage Village.? For real.? Westfield is often described as magical, and at no time of year is this more true than at Christmas. ?Every nook and cranny of this living museum is alive with the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Christmases past.? For many, a visit to Westfield is an annual tradition, a time to step away from the city to do something extra special with friends and family.? Memories are both cherished and made at Westfield.
Westfield’s ‘Twas the Night before Christmas program will take place this year on three Saturday evenings – December 8, 15 and 22 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.? A fantastic fireworks display will light up the sky over the Jerseyville Train Station at 6:30 p.m.? Little ones can send a telegraph to the North Pole at the Railway Station, have a visit with Father Christmas at the hardware store and make a traditional Christmas craft at the one room log schoolhouse. ?Beginning at 7:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy a carol sing-along in the 1854 church.? There is so much to see and do throughout the village.
Hungry visitors will enjoy stopping by the Ironwood Hall for delicious sweet and savoury seasonal foods, desserts and hot and cold drinks. ??The General Store will feature reasonably priced, traditional decorations and treats and visitors to the Gift Shop can shop for that special something.
In the spirit of the season, Westfield will be accepting donations for a local food bank at the entrance to the village.
